베델교회 말씀 사역에서 가장 기억에 남는 시간이 있었다면, 단연코 ‘굿닥터 예수님이 메스를 들다’ 시리즈였다고 할 수 있습니다. 전적인 성령의 역사였다고 믿는데, 많은 성도가 모여들어 매 수요일 저녁 말씀을 공부하던 시간은 은혜가 넘쳤고, 재미도 있었습니다. 팬데믹이라는 거대한 태풍이 지나간 후 여러모로 수요예배를 살려보려고 했지만, 수요말씀 여행의 돛은 꺾이고 표류 상태라 해도 과언은 아닌 것 같습니다. 새로 오시는 제5대 담임목사가 정해진 상황에서 다시 한번 성도들의 말씀에 대한 열심과 관심을 끌어올리기 위해 부족한 종이 다시 나서기로 했습니다.

저는 조직신학 중, 구원론을 심도 있게 그렇지만 최대한 쉽게 접근해 보려고 합니다. 신학교에 가면 조직신학을 공부해야 합니다. 신론, 하나님에 대해 배웁니다. 그리고 인간론, 왜 인간은 절망적인 상태에 빠졌는가를 배웁니다. 그리고 기독론, 그리스도는 누구시며 무엇을 행하셨는가를 배웁니다. 구원론은 이 객관적인 하나님의 구속 사건(기독론)이 역사와 성령의 사역을 통해 어떻게 개인과 공동체의 구체적인 삶에 주관적으로 적용되는지를 다룹니다. 즉 머리로 아는 하나님을 ‘나의 구원자’로 경험하게 만드는 다리 역할을 합니다.

미리 아웃라인을 책자로 만들어 제공하려고 준비하고 있습니다. 그 이유는 수요말씀여행을 알차게, 그리고 잊지 못할 추억의 시간으로 만들고 싶어서입니다. 우리 모두 신학교에 입학해서 조직신학 첫 수업을 받는다고 생각하시고 오실 수 있기를 바랍니다. 학교에서 학점을 받아야 하는 마음으로 수요말씀여행에 오실 수 있도록 몇 가지 제안을 드립니다. 첫째, 출석 체크를 하겠습니다. 개근하시는 분에게 소정의 선물을 준비하도록 하겠습니다. 둘째, 수요예배는 베델교회의 공예배입니다. 팬데믹으로 존재감이 사라진 우리 예배를 회복하기 위해서 모든 중직자들의 참여를 의무화하겠습니다. 그리고 앞으로 세워질 일꾼들 역시 수요예배 및 헵시바 예배의 참여율을 검토하도록 하겠습니다. 셋째, 책자를 미리 만들어 제공하기 위해서 참여자들의 등록을 받도록 할 것입니다. 교회에서 나오는 유인물 역시 우리 성도들의 헌금으로 만들어집니다. 그냥 낭비되는 일이 없도록 숫자에 맞추어 책자를 만들어 나의 책장에 ‘구원론’ 노트가 정리되어 꽂히게 되기를 기대합니다.

조직신학의 신론과 기독론이 기초와 기둥이라면 구원론은 그 집에서 인간이 실제로 하나님과 마주하며 살아가는 ‘삶의 공간’ 그 자체입니다. 단순히 학구적인 성경공부로 끝나지 않고, 신앙생활의 푯대를 확립하여 흔들림 없이 건강한 신앙생활 하는데 길잡이가 될 수 있도록 최선을 다합시다.

As We Restart the Wednesday Word Journey

If there was a most memorable time in the Word ministry of Bethel Church, it would undoubtedly be the ‘Good Doctor: Jesus Holding the Scalpel’ series. I believe it was entirely the work of the Holy Spirit; the time we spent gathering every Wednesday evening to study the Word was overflowing with grace and was highly enjoyable. After the massive storm of the pandemic passed, we tried to revive the Wednesday services in various ways, but it would not be an exaggeration to say that the sails of the Wednesday Word Journey had collapsed, and we have been in a state of drifting. With the situation settled in the appointment of our new 5th Senior Pastor, I, this lacking servant, have decided to step up once again to raise our congregation’s zeal and interest in the Word.

Among the branches of systematic theology, I plan to approach Soteriology (the doctrine of salvation) in-depth, yet as easily as possible. If you go to seminary, you must study systematic theology. We learn about God in Doctrine of God. We learn about humanity—why humans fell into a state of despair in Anthropology. We learn about who Christ is and what He accomplished in Christology. Soteriology addresses how this objective event of God’s redemption(Christology) is subjectively applied to the concrete lives of individuals and the community through history and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. In other words, it acts as a bridge that takes God, whom we know intellectually, and allows us to experience Him as ‘my Savior.’

I am preparing to print and provide the outline in advance as a booklet. This is because I want to make the Wednesday Word Journey fruitful and a time of unforgettable memories. I hope you can come with the mindset that we are all enrolling in seminary and taking our very first class in systematic theology. To help you attend the Wednesday Word Journey with the diligence of someone trying to earn academic credits, I would like to make a few proposals: First, we will take attendance. I will prepare a small gift for those who have perfect attendance. Second, the Wednesday service is an official worship service of Bethel Church. To restore our worship, which lost its sense of presence due to the pandemic, we will make attendance mandatory for all lay leaders. Furthermore, we will review the attendance rates of future leaders in both the Wednesday service and the Hepzibah prayer service. Third, we will require registration for participants to print and provide the booklets in advance. The handouts distributed by the church are funded by the offerings of our congregation. To ensure nothing is wasted, we will print the booklets matching the exact number of registrants, and I look forward to seeing a well-organized ‘Soteriology’ notebook sitting on your bookshelf.

If Doctrine of God and Christology are the foundation and pillars of systematic theology, Soteriology is the ‘living space’ itself, where humans encounter and live with God. Let us do our best so that this does not end as merely academic Bible study but instead establishes a standard for our spiritual life and serves as a guide for living a healthy, unwavering life of faith.
