Part-time Accompanist Job Description (Korean Language Ministry)

Primary Responsibilities: The Church Accompanist is willing to fulfill the mission of the First United Methodist Church of Ontario, providing piano accompaniment for scheduled worship services and other activities in support of the music ministry of the church. Having a pivotal role in the musical life of the church, this individual is a strong team player, working under the direction of the Lead Pastor and Director of Music.

Job Description: This year-round position is, part time. Expectation of attendance is for Sunday worship services, rehearsals with the praise team and other special services, including (but not limited to) Christmas and Easter. The work is done cooperatively, especially with the Director of Music.

Responsibilities/Duties:

1.      Playing for Sunday worship service at 11:30am.

2.      Serve as accompanist for the praise team. (Rehearsal and Sunday worship)

3.      Plan, select, and prepare preludes and postludes, according to the needs of the worship services.

4.      Playing for special services. (Special Early Morning Prayer Meeting and Revival Nights etc.)

5.      Playing for the Saturday Early Morning Prayer Meeting. (Open to discussion)

6.      Maintain an accurate account of piano needs and maintenance, and notify the Director of Music.

Necessary skills:

1.      Ability to play hymns, service music, and special music of moderate difficulty.

2.      Experience with and basic knowledge of church music.

3.      Flexibility, sight-reading, and improvisatory abilities desired.

4.      Ability to work collaboratively with others.

5.      Possess good organizational and communication skills.

6.      Be able to communicate effectively with both Korean ministry and English ministry

Supervision: The accompanist shall be supervised by the Korean Language Ministry pastor and the director of music.  Support and evaluation will be under the guidance of the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
